When we close for the season each September, we look ahead to a week that brings our boats to their winter home. After a day dismantling the six boats, it’s lifting and lugging to bring approximately 150 pieces out of the Public Garden and into storage. One day of this move is dedicated to moving the 12 pontoons. With each weighing about 800 pounds, it requires a crew of 10 to safely guide them from the water, to the dollies, to the truck, and into storage; a unique process that has taken place for close to 140 years.
